Courtney King-Dye: Three Years On (Video)

2008 Olympian Courtney King-Dye suffered a traumatic brain injury in March 2010 while riding without a helmet. Courtney has been educating equestrians on the benefits of wearing a properly fitted, fastened and secured, certified helmet, via videos and articles for the past two years. Watch the video below to see what it is like on a daily basis living with a TBI as Courtney opens a pill bottle, talks and walks with her cane. Please always wear a helmet very time you ride.

Great video Courtney. You are an inspiration. I am currently a physiotherapy student and I’m impressed with your recovery. It’s too bad the funding only goes so far. Keep up the good work!

I wish the girls at the barn would listen to this. We live right in Wellington. But they think that when they turn 18 they no longer have to wear helmets. It should be a law no matter how old you are!! Keep spreading the word Courtney!!

  4. Thank you Courtney you continue to give me inspiration as I move forward with my Western Helmet Project. I will be thinking of you as I prepare for the San Antonio rodeo.

Wonderful video Courtney. Hope your rehab progresses, you’re doing great. I will pass this on to whoever I can send. Personally I always, from my first day riding, wear a helmet, and I tell people I feel naked without it, to heck with helmet hair, they’re the ones who are fools! Keep sending out that message!

I think your an inspiration keep up the good work of letting people know how important a helmet truly is. There have benn many days when its beautiful outside and i just want to let my hair down and ride freely but u are a reminder that it only takes that one time to change your life drasticly so thanks again for letting people know . Your Awsome!!

thanks so much for your personal implication and the effort you are putting into this challenge. Its tear jerking imagining the efforts you have to make to put this message through, and i hope there are many young people and parents like me that take the strength of your words to heart and really do all they can to impose helmets at all levels and ages. I’m reassured in the fact that here (in france) the rules at all club levels make it almost impossile to get NEAR a horse without a helmet on … but when training by myself without people around me to remind me of the evident, i must say that you will inspire me to always stay levelminded and helmet-wise !!
    thanks
    David

  8. Many thanx for your message, you are a big inspiration for lot of riders and also for me. Good luck!
