I wanted to share my story too, not as heartbreaking as many I have read, but a life changing moment due to Pam Kuster none the less!
I was teaching a lesson and decided to get on the stubborn pony to show them how to leg yield …not even 5 minutes on the pony, the owner came running across the farm yelling, asking me to get off, literally pulling me off the pony, since I was NOT wearing a helmet. She handed me $50, asked me to stop the lesson, run to the store, buy a helmet and come back to teach!!!!
And so I did……I have not ridden without one since, so thank you Pam for being an unforgettable example! Luckily I have had no falls in 4 years but if I do at least I know my brain is protected!!!
Particularly when teaching kids, I find it important to lead by example and dress appropriately when at the barn: safe shoes, gloves, helmet, etc.
